Website prep checklist

Goals, sitemap, content, assets, tracking and deadline decisions to settle before build.

Website prep checklist

Start with the business goal

A website project should not start with color and typography. The first decision is the outcome: leads, sales, credibility, hiring or internal operations support.

Website project brief board with sitemap, audience, timeline and tracking
A good brief makes scope clear before interface design starts.

Once the goal is clear, the sitemap gets shorter, CTAs become cleaner and lead forms collect the right follow-up data.

Assets to gather first

  • Logo, color and type guidelines if available.
  • Product, team, location or service mockup images.
  • Required page list and rough copy for each page.
  • Domain, hosting, analytics, pixel and integration access.
Content library and CMS structure for a website
Content assets should be mapped into the CMS from the start.

Tracking and deadline

Tracking should be defined before launch: which form creates a lead, which buttons are conversions and which bookings should enter CRM. Deadlines should be split into sitemap approval, design approval, content entry, QA and go-live.

Launch QA and post-publication monitoring dashboard
Launch readiness should connect directly to post-launch monitoring.
